Corruption of the Name?
Posted by: Robert Harris (ID *****2893) Date: November 30, 2008 at 14:53:10

Based on my recent research, I am apparently a descendant of John Hollingsworth, 1638-1698, Queen Anne's, Maryland. However, based on census and other records, the name Hollingsworth, in regard my apparent ancestor, Martin G. Hollandsworth, became Hollandsworth.

Can anyone shed light on this change, such as whether it was an intermittent change by certain members of the family or somewhat universal, throughout, and/or the reason(s) for the change?

Additionally, my family has always thought our Great Grandfather was a Robert Hollandsworth, but we can find no official or other types of documentation to that effect. However, I have discovered that, a Robert Hollingsworth, is a first cousin of the aforementioned, Martin G. Hollandsworth. Can anyone shed light on this, and/or whether or not my Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Brown, was ever married to Martin's first cousin, Robert?
