A few years back I was at Jackson County Court House and found this in the “Meetings” pages. On page 61 dated 6-4-1839
“Evidence was presented in county that Benjamin Holliday was drafted in Captain Haney’s Company of TN militia in Smith County, TN in the year 1814; that he was killed in a skirmish with British at New Orleans a Short time before the main battle there; that he left no widow, but did leave children- Elizabeth, presently wife of Phineas C Hall and sons George and Stephen; and that they, the only heirs, were under 16 when their father was killed. The court certified accordingly.”
I do believe they moved to the Murphysboro area with their Uncle David Holliday and his wife Mary Henderson.
