Volume III - Hicks 1358/1359

Mary Hicks, b. 16 April 1827, daughter of Elias Hicks by his second wife Susan Bullis & Granddaughter of Benjamin and Deborah Doty Hicks, married 28 October 1850 Lewis Hawley b. 28 October 1818, son of Nathan Hawley of Dutchess County, NY

According to local records Mary was b. in 1827. Mary and Lewis had a son Archibald born abt. 1851 d. 1899 - Lewis died in 1887 at the age of 69. Mary, Lewis & Archibald are buried in a family vault on private property in Dutchess County.

Witnesses were Edward M. LAWTON & Alice O. LAWTON both of Hibernia, Dutchess
County, NY

I. Mary HAWLEY of the Town of Pleasant Valley in the County of Dutchess and
State of New York being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and
declare this my last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to
say:

First-I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.

Second. I give, devise and bequeath to Isaphene LAUGHLIN the use and income
of my real estate upon which I reside during the term of her natural life,
at and upon her decease I give aforesaid real estate to Belle H. BRUNDAGE
the DAUGHTER of Isaphene absolutely.

My FAMILY VAULT I wish my executor to reserve with sufficient land with
egress and ingress and with sufficient money, at least one hundred dollars,
depositeD at the Poughkeepsie Savings Bank in the name of my estate, the
income to be used to care for and keep the same in order and upon the death
of my executor and Trustee to appoint some on in his place to carry out the
provisions of my will.

I give and bequeath to Isaphene LAUGHLIN all my household goods of whatever
name or kind and all my wagons harness and all the contents of my barn. All
the rest and remainder of my property I wish divided according to the laws
of the State of New York.

Lastly, I hereby appoint my Friend Edward W. Lawton, sole executor of this
my last Will and Testament.

Probate Petition dated Dec. 16, 1912 says the Mary died 10 December 1912 in
the Town of Pleasant Valley and her estimated Real Property was $1000 and
her estimated Personal Property was $2000.
