There are two James Hollandsworths in the early Patrick County VA records, and I sometimes get them confused.
One is James, probably son of Thomas Hollandsworth Sr. He was still alive at the 1850 Patrick County Census and if that data is reliable, he was born c1771. He enters the Patrick County records in the 1790's as I recall.
The earliest record of the other James Hollandsworth was in the Revolutionary War papers of 1777 in Henry County VA, where he was a signatory. He had one poll in the Henry County tax lists 1782-1787.
A James Hollingsworth married Rebecca Adams and I believe that it is this James. From deed records, it appears that they lived in Patrick County at least until c1809. James may have died shortly after that time, for I understand that Rebecca signed a deed without James in 1811.
It appears that Rebecca shows up as Rebecca Whallingsworth in the 1820 Wilson County TN Census as a woman over 45, which put her date of birth before 1775. There are also William Hollingsworth and Jacob, James and
John Whallingsworth there, all between the ages of 25-45.
Perhaps others have more information.
Doug Hollingsworth
