I don't know if you are still monitoring this forum.

Your post (6 years ago!) concerning Izaak van Kerkvoort was very valuable to me. Izaak is my great, great grandfather.

My mother is very interested in learning about him and his family, particularly his daughter Dena, her paternal grandmother, whom she remembers well.

Of particular interest to my mother are the details of the van Kerkvoorts' emigration: Was the motivation, religious, economic, general wanderlust? What were the details of their trip; did they tranship through England or come directly from Rotterdam? Did they travel by steamship or sailing vessel? What was their port of immigration in the US and how did they find their way to Grand Rapids?

Do you know where I might start researching to find answers to these and other questions? I live in the SF Bay area and would have some difficulty visitng Michigan to conduct research there in person.

Many, many thanks for any help you are able to provide pointing me in the right direction for these and other questions.

Kindest regards,

Jim Shaughnessy
