Hi Maggie, my grandfather was a Pte Charlie Hallgate (has been spelt Holdgate and Holgate) who enlisted 17th March 1903 with the Yorkshire & Lancashire Regiment, and served in the Northumberland Fusiliers, Lincolnshire Regiment, Durham Light Infantry, Labour Corps., Royal Army Medical Corps., and the Royal Engineers. He was discharged 10th February 1919. He was born 1875. Is this the Pte. C. Holgate which you are seeking? He did not marry a hilton but he had many brothers and sisters, which I have not checked on, who could have done so.
