I feel it unlikely that these are the same people. Charles was born before William Holgate and Jane Holdsworth were married, and kept the name Charles Holdsworth. Also he would have been over 50 years old at the start of the war.
His children, including son, Johnn William, were also Holdsworths.
None of the other descendants of William were called Charles, although two, both called Harry (a son and a grandson) died during the Great War.
Sorry I can't be more help. I wish it could fit in.
