Holdrens From Ohio

Dear Gary,
My great-grandfather, George Washington Holdren of the Washington Ct. House area, had a brother named Herbert H.According to my information, Herbert had a son, Hazard, and a daughter, Charlotte.G.W. Holdren's oldest daughter, Bernice, was my paternal grandmother. Bernice married George L. Borders.
My notes contain the following information:
Herb Holdren was a photographer and had a studio in Washington C.H.; on the back of one of his many photos lists the address of his studio as the "Cor. Court & Fayette."He also lived in Columbus, Ohio and may have died there; but confirmation is required.
I found the following newspaper clipping among the family documents:
"Wm. H. Holdren DEPARTS THIS LIFE MARCH, 24th, AT THE HOME OF HIS SON, Dr.G.H.[sic,(should be G.W.)] HOLDREN.
Was a Highly Respected Citizen and Life-Long Church Member.
William H. Holdren, was born in Ross County, Ohio, September 23, 1839.He was the son of Archable and Elizabeth Holdren, and one of a family of eight children, four sons and four daughters. He was the last of his father's family. He had been in failing health for some time and gradually decreased in physical strength until about three weeks ago, when he was no longer able to sit up.He departed this life, March 24, 1922, being 82 years, six months and 1 day old.
William H. Holdren was married to Mary Elizabeth Long, June 25, 1861,to this unioin were born five children, four sons, and one daughter. The daughter died in childhood. There survive, three sons, Dr. G.W. Holdren, Kingston; M.R. Holdren, South Salem, and H.H. Holdren, Columbus, Ohio. There are six grand children surviving, three boys and three girls, and one great-grandson.
William Holdren was a farmer, and during the greater partof his life lived in Ross county near Good Hope, Ohio.He was a sturdy, hard working man, a good neighbor, a loyal citizen, and a devoted husband and father.
Early in life he united with the Waugh's Methodist Church. This church is located in the country, about 7 miles west of Frankfort. In those earlier days this church wielded a tremendous influence. It had in its membership quite a number of efficient men, able in prayer, and devout women, both, the very "salt of the earth."He was an active church member and while he was raising his family, and during all his active life, took his place in the work of this congregation, and though he lived three or four miles from the church, he was regular at prayer meetings, revival meetings, and all the services of the church, and for years led the singing.
His wife died six years ago, last December. Since that time he has lived with his sons.During his last illness he was very tenderly cared for by Dr. Holdren and his faithful wife and daughter.
He knew the end was coming, and long before had made preparation, and was ready to go.At the close of a beautiful day the summons came, no doubt, just as he would have had it, and reminds us of:
"Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me,
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea."
"Twilight and evening bell
And after that the dark;
And may there be no sadness of fare well
When I embark."
"For though from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face,
When I have crossed the bar."
The funeral services ere held at Dr. Holdren's residence, Monday, March 27, at 10 o'clock a. m., conducted by the pastor Rev. G.H. Heizer, assisted by Rev. D.L. Chapin and Rev. T.C Kerr.Hymns sung by Mrs. E.R. May and Mrs. W.T. Anderson Interment at Bloomingburg, Fayette County, Ohio.
