Holaby (SC)/ Holderby(IL)

Hello,

My ancestor was John Holaby. He may have been in TN, IL and possibly ARK in the 1820's. He could have served in VA and TN companies during the war of 1812. He probably had 2 wives: Phoebe Brown(m. in TN) and Amanda Fisher, who may have been born on ARK around 1800. His date and place of death is unknown.

Some of his children were Matthew, Samuel, Hezekiah, John and Henderson. All these children ended up in MO, ARK, OK and TX. After 1850, it seems as if many of the descendents started using the name "Holybee".

John's parents are unknown. I have looked only at "Holaby" and its variants in the records so far, but I am beginning to think I also need to look at Holderby, because there always seems to be Holderbys nearby!

I am descended from his son Henderson. I find an interesting fac there. Henderson married Amanda Bruton in Greene Co., MO in 1849. Her bruton line came from Spartanburg/Greenville SC. In the 1800 census of Spartanburg, I found a John Holeaby.

It is very confusing.

If anyone could give me advice on searching Holderbys, or if anyone has also seen Holaby(etc.) in their line, I would appreciate any info you might have!

Thanks,
Laura Callier
