Eban Holden's book is online at Heritage Quest OnLine, which I access through Godfrey Memorial Library, Connecticut. http://www.godfrey.org/http://www.godfrey.org/
In Vol. 1, page f266 (f = facing) there is a photograph of a Captain Daniel Holden, it says "From portrait in possession of Mrs. Emma W. (Holden) Woodbury"
I did not find an Emma Holden born Vermont about 1832.
I did find a Holden family with children in Middlebury Vermont in 1840:
1840 Census, Middlebury, Elihu S. Holden, 2 F 0>5, 1 F 5>10 could be Emma., 1 F 20>30According to Vol 2, p. 220/1, #19246.5 Elihu Holden had daughter, Esther, born 1832, and then he had a daughter Emeline(Emma) born in 1848.
There are no Emma Holdens indexed in Vol. 2.So I looked in the book for other Em(m)elines.Found that in Vol 2, p. 14, #12221.38 Philbrook Holden b. 1805, at Northfield (VT?); d. 19 Nov. 1873, named his children in his will.
...
4. James P., born about 1827 ...
5. Emmeline, married Mr. Carpenter. Lived in Lakeville, NY.
...
Do you know who was the husband of your Emma Holden?
My Holden ancestors were in Shrewsbury, Rutland Co. at this time.
