Hi Stephen following is all the information that I have on the James Holden that was my mothers father. I was told by my mothers cousin that he came from an old Ramsbottom family of Holdens and the only family I can find that originated in Ramsbottom/Tottington(this is a little area of Ramsbottom) is as follows.
1881 Census Australia Terrace, Tottington
Edmund Holdenage 50 Labourer for Paviors
Nancy Holdenage 47 Housewife
Williamage 24 Fustian Dyer
Johnage 22 Back Tenter
Charlesage 21 Mangler in Bleach works
Betseyage 19 Housekeeper
Sarahage 17 Cotton weaver
Albertage 14 Plaiter down in Bleach works
Ellenage 12 scholar
Edmundage9 scholar
Jamesage7 scholar********
Jesseage4 Infant
John Haworthage 76 Retired father in law
So this would make him born in 1874. No I do not have any Birth or death certificates. The only certificate I have is my mothers Birth certificate. If you like I can send you a copy of it. It just states James Holden as the father and he was a Master Hairdresser, mother Elizabeth Holden formerly Earnshaw ans she was born in Darwen, Lancashire in September 1911. I do know that my mother must have been about 12/18 months old when she left him and went to live in Shipley in Yorkshire and there she met a James Verity and they moved to live in Marple Stockport sometime around 1913. I have traced this information and it is correct. The only thing my Grandmother would tell us was that she was born in Blackburn. I have traced all the Earnshaw family back to 1790s.
Any further info would be appreciated.
