Re your search for the HOLDEN name in Sussex.
If you have some spare time, check out the IGI* batch numbers for Sussex, and start fishing!
I certainly found plenty of the HOLDEN name when I was searching for the PEACOCK name in the village of Fittleworth, in West Sussex, about 3.8 km (2.28 miles) south east of Petworth.A George Peacock married an Eliza Holden in Fittleworth on 24 June 1822;they might turn out to be one of my pairs of great-great-great grandparents! They moved to Petworth (or possibly the smaller village of Tillington only a mile west of Petworth) where their children's christenings were noted.A marriage is noted at Tillington itself of a Henry Peacock and an Emma Holden on 5 September 1831.
When I discovered that there are a great number of people of the PEACOCK name in Petworth, I checked out onsite maps of the vicinity and made a list of towns and villages within about ten miles of Petworth. Then I checked each of those for IGI files - some are not represented, some of those that are there have no people of the PEACOCK name listed, and some definitely do!
I printed out any lists of a page or more, and then opened up on the PC each reference and noted the parents' names on the christenings lists and for the names of the bride and groom on the marriages lists. The printouts of course show the dates. You could do the something similar for the HOLDEN name.It would take quite a bit of time, but it could be worth it, especially if you have a town or village name to start with.
Happy sleuthing!
