Hi! I have records of Archibald Holden born 1804, SC and spouse Jemima. This information was just recently obtained from the Holden family Bible in the Alamo Library. The bible has some information but a Don Carl Holden also gave information in printed form, and admits it is probably good but undocumented in part.
Archibald was the 5th child to Richard and Sarah Holden. His sibs were:
1. Issac b. 12/15/1798, SC. M. Polly ann (Poor) Poer 7/22/1819, SC. d. 1862, Lawrence Co, Ark. (this is Don Holdens Great-grandfather)
2. James b. 6/10/1799, SC. m. Nancy 7/12/1820
3. Richard b. 1801, SC
4. Abner b. 1803, SC. m. Linda? d. after 1860
5. Archibald b. 1804 prob SC m. Jemima
6. Bennett b. 1805, SC m. Pernesa J.
7. Joshua b. 1810 prob. SC m. Ann Beeson Lewis, 7/29/1830 in Pickins SC
8. George Washington Holden b. 1810, prob Pickens County, SC. m. Malissa Dishroom (dishrome?)1830 prob. in Georgia
d. 1894 Llano, Lanno County, Tx (this is my great-great grandfather) I'm in the process of gathering more information on him. in 1853 he helped establish the town of Llano, Tx and has some history written about him in the county records.
9. Joseph b. 1811 prob SC
10. John W.b. 1813, SC m. Susam Myers Dunman on 7/12/1845 in Lamar County, Tx. d. ABOUT 1857 Hampstead Co., Ark.
11. Elizabeth b. 1815 prob. SC. m. William Turpin 1/15/1833 prob. in georgia
12. Jemimah (Mimea b. 6/1/1817, Georgia. m. Willima Hickman Dunman, d. 5/5/1877 in Round Mountain, Tx.
13. Milley b. 4/7/ 1819, d. 1/6/1820 (only lived 9 months)
14. Andrew Jackson b. 12/21/1821 d. 12/30/1821, only lived 9 days (my great-grandfather was named after this child)
15. Zenith b. 9/9/1823, m. John Mathtews
16. Oliver Holden (no further information avail on him)
So, now for the parents
Richard Holden b. 8/13/1777, NC d. 8/6/1842, Habersham Co., Georgia
m. Sarah b. 8/22/1779, d. 6/8/1842, Habersham Co., Georgia
I have other records but not overly organized yet.
I have only just learned about the Holden history since around the beginning of october 2001.
I am trying to document enough information in order to establish Holden's in Texas with Stephen F. Austin's original 300, actually will probably establish it thru the last name of Chaudoin/Shadoin/Shodoin and i'm looking for linear information to put a holden in the American Revolution.
Richard was born during, but i have no records of his parents...
Let me know if this helps you out at all, ok?
Take care, "cousin" since Archibald and George were brothers!
Fondly,
Sandra R. Holden-Smith
