You may wish to review this website. Austin died in 1865 which leads me to believe he could have been a casualty of The Civil War. He may not have died in battle, but could have died of complications of disease. So many lost their lives to disease such as Malaria, measles, pneumonia, etc.

Children in the household were Heber age 11, born in Ohio, and Eli Jr. age 7 also born in Ohio. Is there any way these could be their children? Living in the vicinity was Peleg. Living next door was Ozras and Susan Markham; perhaps this is daughter Susan.
Eli was enumerated in the 1860 Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co., OH, federal census, reel M653-932 page 20 B. He was 77 and in the household of Ozras and Susan Markham; this is, again, perhaps his daughter Susan.

Peleg S. Holcombe was born in 1805 at CT or MA.2 He was the son of Eli Holcombe and Susan Sweet. Peleg S. Holcombe married Elvira Woodberry on 3 December 1832.1
The marriage records of Ashtabula Co., OH from LDS Film #0890264, transcribed by Carol Page Tilson, indicate that a Peleg S. Holcomb married Alvira M. Woodbury on 3 Dec 1832.
Peleg was enumerated in the 1850 Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co., OH federal census. He was a farmer age 44, born in OH. The names of his wife and 6 children are nearly illegible but appear to be Elvira 39, Rollin 18, Eli 14, Norton 12, Mary Ann 8, Orrin 4, and Ellen 2.
