Rebecca:Hope you aren't getting weary of reading my postings - I'm in a garrulous mode today! While I have all these Holberts on my mind, thought I would include a few other interesting items.Much of this was obtained at the W. Va. archives in Morgantown, where I read ALL of the back issues of the Preston County Journal from abt. 1866 thru 1928 - at some point I guess I'll have to read the rest of them so I can wind up my Lipscomb family research and get a book published.Peter and Francis Carrico came to Preston county with their sister Catherine in 1786 and settled on the east bank of Cheat River at the mouth of Wolf Creek.Ambrose Lipscomb settled on what became known as "Lipscomb Ridge" above the mouth of Wolf Creek in 1808 - so these Carrico folks were probably his closest neighbors! Catherine Carrico became the wife of James Goff - their son Salathiel Goff married Ambrose's daughter Lucy Lipscomb.Francis Carrico had a son James who married Nancy Holbert - they went to Ohio.Francis Carrico's daughter Eliza married Thomas Hebb (the Hebbs, who later intertwined with several Lipscombs, also hail from Loudoun County, Va.).Peter Carrico had a son Joseph who married Sibbeth Holbert, and their son John Carrico (1821-1901) married Annamelia Hebb. The latter's son Caleb Carrico married Columbia Chambers...and two of THEIR sons (Frank Carrico and Lee Carrico) married Lipscombs! The dearth of court records in Preston county makes sorting out all these people very difficult...In the 1810 Census of Randolph County, there is an Aaron Holbert who removed to Lewis County before 1820. He filed there for a Rev. War. pension - I don't know how he is connected to our Holberts. The 1820 Census of Preston County has William Holbert age 26-45 with his wife, also age 26-45, with 2 sons and 1 daughter under age 10, and 2 daughters age 10-16.Next door is John Holbert and wife - both aged 16-26 - I'm pretty sure this is the brother of Berlinda Holbert who took your Jehu Lipscomb with him to Iowa. There is also Joseph Carrico and his wife Sibbeth (Holbert) Carrico, both age 26-45. And nearby there is Moses Beavers whose wife was Hannah Holbert. With so many of these people in the same age bracket, it sure looks as though some of these Holberts could be brothers - and perhaps Moses Beavers and Joseph Carrico were their brothers-in-law.Hopefully some zealous researcher from the Carrico or Beavers descendant will un-ravel all of this some day!
