Eureka!I think we've got it!I obtained Rachel's maiden name from the death certificate of her daughter Sophia. But on Louvena's (another daughter) certificate appears "--- Bachman".We couldn't figure out the descrepency, but now it all fits. That must have been the maiden name of her mother's mother, which was incorrectly remembered by the informant.
Birth and death dates for Rachel Holben are found on her tombstone at the Ridge Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Van Wert Co., OH.Rachel was a sponsor for Benjamin Gorman at Heidelberg Evan. Lutherine Church, Lehigh Co., PA on 6 Sept., 1818.(Husband Valentine Mihm was baptised at the Union Church Neffs, N. Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co. - located one township over, southeast of Heidelberg). The Lowhill and Weisenberg Church is close by.
As you probably already have, in the 1870 Medina Co., OH Census, there are:Jonathan Holben, b. 1802, PA (wife Clarissa) and David B. (Bachman?) Holben, b. 1809, PA, (wife Christina.)By 1870 Rachel and her family had moved from Medina to Van Wert Co.She had named three of her children Mary, John and David (names from this family?)
Can you tell me anymore about Christian and Maria Bachman Holben?Thank you!Judy Llamas
