I have a photo of Lt. Col. Lawrence E. Hohl, undated. We "rescued" It when my grandmother Helen , Mrs. Clarence L. Hohl Sr., was throwing out stuff 25 years ago or so. Inside the photo sleeve is a newpaper article that sheds some light on Lawrence. The article is from The Colarado Springs Evening Telegraph, dated April 7, 1920. Perhaps there is a location where you can view their archives. The title of the article is "Man Who Directed Machine Guns That Broke Hindy Line Here; Advocates Universal Training." Here are some excerpts from the article: * With his mother Mrs. Leonard Hohl, Lawrence is visiting his uncle A. F. Hohl at 1406 S. Nevada Ave. [CO Springs, CO] * Entered the Army in 1903. * Served in Mexico 1914-1915, Captain in 16th Infantry * 1917 as a Major, assigned to First Div. in France * Was wounded at Cantigny * Promoted to LTC and placed in commanrd of the machine gun divisions of the 30th Div. in Belgium. * After the war ended, appointed machine gun instructor on General Pershing's staff at Chaumont. Also broke his leg in an auto accident. * Aug. 1919 he was sent back to the US as a "hospital casual." * The article states his next assignment is as machine gun instructor to West Point graduates in Ft. Benning, GA. Hope this helps. Marlene, if you read this, I knew I had this info when we talked so long ago. Just could not put my hand on it. Photo copies of article and photograph are yours, and "J's", for the asking. Notify Administrator about this message?
