For those of you not on the Hogle list the following message was posted 12-3-2002 by Walter Hogle: DNA PROJECT SUMMARY - 5 HOGLE'S DNA samples were taken via swabs inside the mouth against the cheek from HOGLE descendents of Eduard, Barent, Johannes and Pieter who kived near each other in the 1750's east of Albany, NY near what is now the Vermont border. Another DNA sample was taken from a descendent of William Sydney Hogle in hopes of connecting his line to one of the four. Twenty-six "Y" Chromosomes are passed from father to son, so that mine will be the same as my father, my grandfather, and so on back to Johannes Hogle. Each of the four agreed exactly on 25 of the 26 chromosmes, with each slightly off on a different chromosome. This indicates that the four came from a common ancestor - most probably 11 generations back around 1650. The level of 95% confidence is between 1.6 and 36.4 generations. Since two of us tested descendents are 7 generations from Johannes & Eduard we know that the common ancestor is between 8 and 36.4 generations back. It is possible he is 8 generations back and the father to all four 1750 Hogles. We cannot be sure, William Sydney Hogle's cromosomes exactly matched all 26 of Eduard Hogle's chromosomes, telling us he belongs in that line, probably several generations after Eduard. Knowing that all four Hogle's have a common ancestor tells us that we are all related cousins. The minute any of us can place a related Hogel in Europe before 1750, we will know our nationality. Some of us belive we are Dutch, and others believe German - We can't be both Notify Administrator about this message?
