I am one of the Arkansas Hoggards you mentioned -
from James Robert Hoggard born 1840 TN son of
William Hoggard.I have just been told that all the
other Hoggards around Calamine AR are from John - the
brother of William.
My James Robert settled near the Higden, AR area ca 1883.
He was in TN until the Civil War when he joined the Union army.
After this, he only saw his brothers one time many years after the war.
I have been told his wife went to KY during the war - I do find them
there after the war.His daughter is the one I dec. from and she
grew up there, married there.Around 1880 they moved to MO,
then by 1883 they were in Arkansas.Rebecca's Steven husband
died during the move, she then married Tommy Turney of
Cleburne County Arkansas.

Now in researching the family - I did not realize the connection to the
other Ar group so I assumed they moved to NW Arknasas because so
many TN Union men moved there in the 1870s.I thought the move to
KY was because it was safer for southern Union families....
now I wonder if there was a connection to the KY Hoggards.

It is interesting about Holston River. The family Rebecca Hoggard
married into is my Turney family - Henry Turney had land on Holston
River in 1774.

So I begin to wonder if you are correct - and we are all the
same family regardless of how the name is spelled.Hoggard/Haggard
or whatever.
