My Hogg's came from Lanarkshire. They came from Scotland to Perth County Canada prior to 1860. One of them, William Hogg, married a girl he met on the trip. Her name was Margaret Minto Thomson (Thompson?). They migrated south from Canada to Iowa but it is possible that some of the other Hogg's on the boat went elsewhere.
I realize that this isn't much but maybe it will fit somewhere for you.
