Hoggs emigrating to Ohio from Lanarkshire c. 1864?

I am looking for a possible family connection between the Sutherland and Hogg families.

John P. Sutherland emigrated to Youngstown, OH in 1883 at age 23 or 24. John married Jessey Hogg (date unknown). Jessey was the daughter of Duncan and Christina/Christana Hogg. Duncan and Christina/Christana emigrated to Youngstown, OH in 1864 (according to U.S. Census records). Jessey was born in Ohio in 1867.

I am fairly certain that John P. was from Lanarkshire. My suspicion is that the Hoggs in question may also have been from Lanarkshire.

Thanks in advance for any additional information or research pointers. I am relatively new as this geneology stuff so excuse me if I am not describing things clearly!

Regards,

Duncan Sutherland
