Hogg surname Y-DNA project

I would like to start a Y-chromosome DNA project for the study of the Hogg family, including other spelling variations. I invite all other direct male descendants of any Hogg line to join.

In a Y-DNA project, males with the same surname from different lines take the DNA test, and if they descend from a common paternal ancestor, their test results will show a high degree of match. This process indicates which lines descend from a common ancestor and which do not.

I have had the test myself, but the results will become interesting only if others join so that comparisons can be made.

In order to be valid, the test must be taken by a male with the Hogg surname. If you are researching the Hogg family, but do not qualify yourself, you can participate by encouraging a brother/father/uncle/cousin who is a Hogg male to join.

The test is easy and painless and does not reveal any genetic information that would compromise health care issues.

If you would like to particpate, please contact me for additional information.

Who am I and what do I expect to learn from the study: I am a descendant of Richard Hogg who was born in Gloucester Co. Virginia in about 1717. This line is very well documented in the book "Hogg Family of York and Gloucester Counties, Virginia" by Mrs. Elizabeth Hogg Ironmonger, published in 1968. It is believed, but not proven, that this Richard Hogg is the grandson of John Hogg who came to New Kent Co. Virginia in 1657. It is entire possible, that the Hogg lines that first appear in Frederick Co. Virginia might also descend from this John Hogg. Also, it is possible that there might be a connection between these Hogg lines and the line that origins with Capt. Peter Hogg of Augusta Co. Virginia. It is my expectation that Y-DNA testing of living male descendants of these varions Hogg lines will lead to a determination of which lines are related and which are not.

Although my immediate interest is in the Hogg lines that originated in Virginia, I encourage any Hogg anywhere in the world to join and provide the means for determining whatever relationships might exist.
