I purchased the subject undated studio portraits taken by Baker Studio/W. H. Baker, Barnesville, OH, along with an undated RPPC (Real Photo Postcard) (not postally used) depicting a one-story house.

The man's portrait is identified on the front of the mount:

"Herman L Hoge
(grandmothers nephew)"

The woman's portrait is identified on the front of the mount:

"Mrs. Herman Hoge"

The post card is addressed to Mrs. Mary D. Hollingsworth, Belmont, OH, and bears the following message:

"Our Home
at Cambridge, O,

Mr & Mrs H L Hoge"

These individuals appear in Public Member Trees posted on ancestry.com. Attached to some of these trees is the same studio portrait of Herman that I describe in this message.

Herman L. Hoge, born 2 Jan 1854 in Belmont Co., OH, died 13 Nov 1940 in Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH, was the son of a farmer, Joshua H. Hoge (1821-1902), and Clarissa Dillon (1823-1909). He was employed as a telegraphic operator. On 25 Dec 1878, he married Luella Gregg, born Mar 1854 in OH, the daughter of a farmer, William W. Gregg (1826-), and Jane (maiden name unknown) (1829-). Herman and Luella had two children, one being Edna A. Hoge, born Oct 1884 in OH. The couple is listed in the 1880 Census data for Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH; the 1900 and 1910 Census data for Goshen Township, Belmont Co., OH; and the 1920 Census data for Cambridge (resided at 517 Fifth Street), Guernsey Co., OH. Herman is listed as a widower in the 1930 Census data for Cambridge (resided at 900 Carlisle Avenue), Guernsey Co., OH. Herman and Luella are also listed in the 1860 and 1870 Census data for Goshen Township, Belmont Co., OH.
