This is my first time here...

Samuel Evan Hoge was my great grandfather. My father tried to do some research in the 1990's, pre internet, and I inherited his notes. Samuel's parents were John and Mary Hoge, but that was as far back as my father got. I met his second wife Julia Rayhill Hoge (my great grandmother) in 1951 and/or 1952 she was 99. She had moved to Columbus to stay with my grandfather.

John & Mary had 11 children:
Zimmer(?) Hoge b. Aug 15, 1814
Jonathan Hoge b. June 20, 1816
Elizabeth Hoge b. March 1, 1818
Sarah Hoge b. Feb 9, 1820
Lewis Hoge b. April 24, 1822
William Hoge b. April 15, 1824
Nancy Ann Hoge b. Oct. 5 1826
Jackson Hoge b. July 6, 1828
Samuel Evan Hoge b. Oct 14, 1831 (or Sept 16, 1831 per obituary) d. Dec 28, 1902
Crawford Hoge b. May 1, 1834
Steward Hoge b. Oct 21 1836

Per the hand typed copy of Samuel's obituary in the Canton Daily Register of Canton, IL:
He was born in Pennsylvania, his family moved to Ohio for 18 years, then to California MO until 1888, then to Canton IL until 1896 then to Springfield IL.
Married twice in 1860 to Susan Smallwood of California MO and in 1880 to Julia Rayhill of Belleville, IL
He had 6 children Wallace, Frank, Albert (my grandfather), Ida, Gertrude, and Helen.
It says he was a city attorney in California, MO, sheriff of Moniteau County, and postmaster of California MO for 14 years.
He was a building contractor in Canton, IL.

Julia Rayhill was born Jan 23, 1853
I have a list of her siblings if you are interested.

Note: I spend the winters in Florida so I won't be able to access my fathers notes for awhile.
