Ted,
Thank you so much for the information.Do you know where researchers came across "Crawford" for the maiden name of Agnes? There is no doubt that she was the mother of our James, is there?I have a copy of the biography of Moses Hoge, in which he states who his mother was, but the information has, I believe, always been a bit fuzzy on Agnes.
One more thing:In Foote's work on various families of Virginia, a portion of a paper written by James Hoge, father of James and Moses, is quoted. It deals with Grandfather Hoge's conversion experience, I believe.Does anyone know the whereabouts of that paper?
By the way, I'm descended from James Hoge, Jr's daughter Martha, who married John Brawley, Jr. in Montgomery County, Va.The father of John Brawley, Jr. had settled in what is now Wythe County in the 1770's. The Rev. Daniel Lockett, another ancestor, traveled the rather ponderous distance from Wythe to the Hoge home to conduct the ceremony.
