Swindon (with an 'o'), is in Wiltshire, UK, and the last time I looked it was still there. Do buy a map though, as I suggested in my e-mail to you, since the registration district may have been a nearby town. Only then, will the microfilm of the St. Catherine's indices make more sense should he have been born in some place close to Swindon.
BTW. In case you were wondering... No. I don't have any religious affiliations with the LDS. It's just that their Family History Centers carry the references you need in order to dig up that vital Birth cert. Now please go back a little and carefully re-read my e-mail!
