Hi Thomas: Tracing the location of my ancestors before 1800 is a little scetchy. We know that our family lore says that our earliest identified ancestor (William Hogan b.1740) came down from "old Virginia" after the Revolutionary war with his two sons Daniel and William to settle in Willis Bottom on the Obey River in northern Tennessee (now Clay co.). There were a lot of William Hogan's in Virginia around this time. His son William Hogan (b. 1777, my gr gr gr grandfather) told the census taker that he was born in "SC". I have traced a lot of William Hogan's in SC to Union co. and Fairfield co. The crazy thing is that our group is matching up DNA with the James Hogan/Silence group in Anson, NC. The mystery continues...
