Hello Annette: I have seen this family a few times in my research. My earliest proven ancestor is William Hogan (b.1777 SC). We do know that we have a positive DNA connection with Ewing Hogan (b. 1795/6 SC) who was said to be William's (1777) stepbrother. Ewing had a brother named Micajah b.1809 (source is "Turnbo's Tales of the Ozarks"). A Micajah Hogan (b. ?) lives close to the Union County, SC Hogan's (source is Union Co. SC census of 1790). The story is that William's (1777) father was Willam or James (b. 1740). I think that William/James (1740) was in SC during the Rev War and possibly fought in battles near where he lived (son William was b.1777 SC). There were several battles in Union Co. near the Tyger River. There is a land deal between a Gentry and a Hogan here. A connection between your family in Union County and my family looks very good. My William/James (1740) and his son William (1777) ended up on the Obey River in Overton County, TN. by 1806.Have you considered having a DNA test done? These tests reveal so much (positive and negative).I would be glad to exchange info by mail if you are interested.
