HOGAN, Alfred & Mary Jane HARDIN(G) - Grant County KY @1810-1850
Seeking documentation/confirmation for the parents of Alfred Hogan who was married to Mary Jane Hardin(g) on 12/22/1840 in Grant Co KY.Online sites show two different fathers - William and Zachariah. However, researching these two men who lived in Grant County does not show that Alfred was not the son of either of these men.Early census reports aren't helpful since children were not listed on those early censii.Per Grant County records, Alfred has died before the 1850 census, that Mary Jane is a widow with five (5) youngsters and that she is a pauper, that the county paid Jane Hogan for the benefit of her children (Oct 1850), that the county paid one John James for making a coffin for A Hogan (Oct 1850 C-269), that the county is paying Jane Hogan, a poor widow woman, for the support of her afflicted children (Nov 1853 C-385), that one Wesley Tulley is paid for medical services to Mrs. Hagan (Oct 1853, C-491).These records indicate that Alfred died between 1848 (birth of last child) and Oct 1849 (court record for welfare). Now, if this Alfred was the sheriff of the county per some sites and that he was part of the legal-educated Hogans, why would his widow have been destitute?
