Hi, Mark! Yes, I think we did correspond awhile back. If so, I'm sure you are the one who gave me most of the info I have on James. I, too, have copies of Emma's research. She would have been delighted with the progress you've made on this guy!!
I'm curious about Mary, James' "sister" - if she was born around 1825, and his mother Dorcas was 80 in 1850, then Mary was born when her mother was 55 - isn't that a bit of a stretch, even in an era when women were bearing children into their middle 40s??Or is this date wrong, too?? Or maybe Dorcas wasn't 80 in 1850?
"Polly" Hogan's tombstone lists her as "Our Auntie" - but whose Auntie was she? And whose "aunt" was she on the 1880 census? If she was being referred to as Aunt Polly by Rebecca and her children (which is entirely feasible), that is what the census taker would have written - that she was an Aunt.
As to Rebecca's birthdate, don't you think they would know the correct date of a family birth if they were writing it in the family bible?
I'm still wondering if James maybe had another marriage, that would account for at least Rebecca. Rebecca would be a sister to James Henderson, no matter who her mother was.
