Lori: I have made a number of additions to my database, thanks to you for bringing additional people to my attention. I am not completely convinced about Lauesie Hofmann and believe this is [in my database] Mary Louise Hofmann. And up to now, she was the only person I had for this branch. Nevertheless, you have been a wealth of information. After this message, I have posted by notes on Alois and Mary Ann. Jeremy

BIOGRAPHY: Listed as Alues Hufman in 1880 Fed. Census for Lockport, Will Co. [Section 1 & 12], IL, Dist. 205, enumerated on 10 Jun 1880, age 41, b. Prussia, farmer, w/wife + 4 children, both parents b. Prussia. Note: The census image listed that those enumerated on that page lived in Sections 1 & 12, which are adjacent to each other and probably in the township of Lockport; additional research req'd.
Listed as Aloes Hoffman in 1900 Fed. census for Lockport Twp. [West of Des Plaines River], Will Co., IL, Dist. 136, enumerated on 21 Jun 1900, age 65, b. May 1835, Germany, farmer, married 35 years, w/wife + 1 child, George, Alois immigrated to U.S. in 1848 [image shows 1838 in error], resided in U.S. 52 years, both parents b. Germany. Note: Although the 1900 census is reliable on birth dates, there are variations of calculated birthdate in other census images.

Germany, own income, married 3 years, emmigrated to US in 1852, naturalized, w/2nd wife Sussie, age 36 + 4 of her children from prior marriage with surname Yard + 1 daughter of this marriage, age 1 year, both parents b. Germany, living at 619 State St.
He worked in a steel mill, farmed & ran a saloon in Lyons, IL, owned and managed a saloon in Lockport, IL per George A. Reed paper.
Jeremy Jordan has a copy of some Will Co., IL Probate records that shows that "Alois Hofmann" provided "Proof of Death" for Leger Hills, his father-in-law as well as a transcript of Leger's Will. In review of various documents, there is a spelling of both 'Hofmann' and 'Hoffman'.

BURIAL: Calvary Cem.

BIRTH: Originally calculated to be about 1834, but she is listed as Marie Anne Hils in a copy of the original Bill of Birth [in Jeremy Jordan’s records], rec'd. 20 Dec 2007 from Mairie de Wittisheim, b. 21 Aug 1833, also showing both parents, Léger & Catherine.
Earlier data indicated her to be about 73 [which is correct] when she died per George Aubrey Reed (RIN-1855), paper. The approx birth year of 1834 confirmed in a Death Registry entry, showing birth in Germany, since Germany took Alsace in 1871.
