You are very welcome - I'm glad I could help a bit. I wanted to let you know I found an old post from someone on ancestry.com . They were asking for information on Allina Campbell who married Herman Hoffman and lived in San Francisco She says they had a few children, one named Andrew Porter Hoffman.
So if they are correct, Allina's husband was Herman - father to your Isabelle.
I tried to find a Herman Hoffman in 1880 census born CA . I found one born 1857 but he is also in 1900 census when your Herman would have already died. Of course we don't know for sure that that is the right name for him. A marriage record would help.
