Yes, Reverand Daniel Hoff is out as the direct upstream ancestor of your John Harvey Hoff and brother Powell Hoff (1801-1870).
Reverand Daniel was an offspring of Derrick Pauluszen Hoff, as is proven by Terry Hoff's y-dna test though.
We can prove that Amos (born 1775) was the son of Powell Hoff {d: 1816 York Co., SC), and wife Prudence Sutton by 3 different documents:
(1) The testimony Amos gave in the Rockbridge, Virginia court case, when father Powell Hoff (II) was sued.
(2) The York County, South Carolina estate inventory of Powell Hoff's son Jonathan Huff (~1770-1815 York Co., SC), in which Amos bought his brother's clothes.
(3) The deed of 1827 Washington County, Ohio, when Amos names his mother "Prudence Hoff" of York County, South Carolina.
So the line is now PROVEN back to Amos born 1775's father Powell Hoff (II), that married Prudence Sutton.
We know by Y-DNA tests that this Powell Hoff (II) was the direct offspring of Derrick Pauluszen Hoff.
To my knowledge there is no document discovered yet to prove the Powell Hoff (ii) that married Prudence Sutton's father.
The key to finding Powell Hoff's line back to Derrick Pauluszen Hoff may be to find the marriage record of Amos parent's Powell Hoff and Prudence Sutton. I don't know if anyone has looked for it yet.We know Prudence Sutton Hoff's father was Jonas Sutton of New Jersey, where he died and his last will and testament has survived.
