Dear Cuz John:

You are forming some interesting theorys here in this missive and hitting on one of my reasons for being VERY INTERESTED in James P. Hoff (b: 1804)(one of the four children of ENOCH HOFF{1773-1812}). He, in turn, had 10 children (listed elsewhere).

Amos has two sons, one of which was born about the same time as Powell Hoff (1801-1870).

Amos leaves Fairfax Co., VA in 1823.

Amos is missing the oldest son on the 1830 census of Washington Co., OH. Powell is listed at Fearing Twp., in 1830.

Powell HOFF (#3) Marries Martha Brewster there in Marietaa, Wash'g Co., OH on 25 May 1824.

NEW THEORY: What is saying James P. Hoff was, in fact, the son of Enoch Hoff?

What is a good theory about Amos FULL name?
Was he the James Huff/Hoff born 1775 and living on/near Powell's property in 1850 Peoria Co., Illinois ?

We have with undisputable legal documents (land deeds) proven Amos was the son of POWELL Hoff (#2) (d: 1816) and wife Prudence Sutton, of York Co., SC. Research showed that they had the following children:"
1. JONATHAN HOFF (d: 1815), wife Mary Yates
4. JANE HOFF, H: Francis Carson

Now just what year was James P. Hoff born in and what did the P. stand for ????

This was the line I was talking about that MAY be disturbed as we continue to search by documents this Washington County, OH clan of Hoffs.

Here is what we can prove by documents for James P. Hoff:

1. He was Born in Virginia about 1804.

2. He has children born outside of Ohio, even though Enoch was in Washington county at least by 1810.

3. Amos's name was POSSIBLY James Amos Hoff. AMOS HOFF's father PAPER PROVEN named POWELL HOFF & PRUDENCE SUTTON.

4. JAMES P. (maybe Powell) Hoff.

Who is the most likely candidate as being Amos son if not Powell born 1801????

This is just in the WHAT MIGHT OF HAPPENED theory stage to see where we need to look at documents , but it does have some merit.

When ENOCH HOFF's wife, Nancy Duncan Hoff died is unknown. She was left many tracts of land by her father. Did she leave any that had to be divided amoung her heirs after her death on a land deed? Did Nancy go back to Fluvanna Co., VA after Enoch died in 1812?

It is my belief that where ever Nancy Duncan Hoff died, there is a record of heirs on a deed of sale or estate settlement and it will be important if we can find it.

Just rattling on with theorys,
Your Buddy,
CUZ Larry Huff
