Well, in response to your having contactd the ten of us with common DNA established, I am happy to have our “Dutch” Hoff “blood line” reconfirmed! DNA doesn’t lie (or so the say!). It is my recollection that to have a valid test, the sample must be taken from a direct lineal male descendant. If so, male offspring of female descendants breaks the link, and can’t be used to validate the field, if I understand the process correctly. So, other potential Hoff/Huff/Hough descendants of our common “Dutch” line would also, like all of us, have to be direct lineal male descendants. The use of the DNA testing is rather exciting to reconfirm our lineage.

In my case, (with one possible exception for a Canadian Hoff cousin) I do not personally know of any other similarly-situated direct, lineal male Hoff descendants from our “Dutch” line. But perhaps by “posting” this on the Hoff Family web site (run by Jo Ellen Brittain), perhaps a few more long-lost cousins might turn up to further confirm and expand the field of potential candidates. I am in close contact and have met with both Roger Huff (California) and Robert Huff (of Mt. Vernon, KY), both of whom are direct male descendants of JAMES HUFF (a very early Ky. pioneer from the late 1700s, whose exact roots and parentage are uncertain at this point). I traveled to Ky. for a fun, small Hoff/Huff “family reunion” of sorts this past summer (2007), and we have tried to “link” our respective Hoff/Huff lines (unsuccessfully as of this point). A photo of ROGER HUFF, ROBERT HUFF and me, JOHN SCOTT HOFF, is attached, along with a sign from the Huff Family settlement there. Also, Linda Huff Messing (the “guru” in my opinion on the Huff side of the house) will find the Hoff/Huff DNA connection/confirmation of strong interest, I suspect. Perhaps she might also know of Huff males who fall into the field of inquiry.

Thanks for making contact with the “ten” of us Hoffs/Huffs/Houghs . I’d welcome any direct contact with any of the others, too, and sets see if we can collectively make the “link-up” on up the line someplace. I am always happy to share what I have. Contact me directly, if you like at (312) 346-8111 in Chicago, or at <> Cheers, JOHN SCOTT HOFF
