PRUDENCE POWELL was reportedly the wife of AMOS HOFF (1775 VA - 1855 Dallas Co., IA), and she was also thought to be the mother of POWELL HOFF (1801 nr. Manassas, Prince William Co., VA - 1870 Dallas Co., IA). She may be buried in the Hoff-Pararie Cem., just west of Grimes, IA.
Since POWELL HOFF was born in northern VA in 1801, presumably she may have come from that location before her presumed marriage to AMOS HOFF. Her name appears in several older Hoff Family charts, but virtually nothing is known about her, where she came from, her parentage, siblings or any other children. LAMAR BREWSTER HOFF, a descendant of POWELL HOFF & wife MARTHA BREWSTER HOFF feels strongly that AMOS HOFF & PRUDENCE POWELL are the correct and true parents of POWELL HOFF, and not JOHN F./JONATHAN F. HOFF (~1750 - 1812 Fearing Twp., Washington Co., OH), as was earlier ascribed by Mr. Arnold Hovey, who has researched the Hoff lineage. Any relatives out there with any documentation or views on the subject or in possible resolution of this conflict? Feel free to contact me directly, as well: JOHN SCOTT HOFF <jsh@aviationattorney.com> Chicago, IL (312)346-8111
