I descend from the "Dutch" line of Hoffs that came from NY>NJ. My line, from the Rev. Daniel Hoff, moved from NJ to Virginia in ~1770. I believe that another of this family, a Cornelius Hoff (also thought to be a "lay" misister), may have moved from NJ to So. Carolina on or about the same time, and this may have been the start or origins of the "Southern" branch of the Hoff family. I hope this is of some help.
