Biogtraphical Data Entry: JOHN RICHARD HOFF, born 6 Feb 1909 in Des Moines, IA, Married 1 Sept 1834 to VALETTA FLORENCE SCOTT of Hedrick IA (24 Jul 1913 - Now), died 4 Nov 1970 in DSM. Lived at 1335-E.14th St., DSM. Attended East Hight School, active in play groups and debate,graduating 1927. Attended Drake Univ. 2 years, a member of SAE Fraternity, transferred to and graduated from Northwestern Univ. in 1932. Worked for the Insurance Co. of America as a Field Agent & Special agent from 1932 to 1947. Left to operate the Hoff Ins. Agency, whcih merged into the Hopkins Agency in the late 1960s. He was active in the Kendall Theater and the Des Moines Community Playhouse. He was a Shriner (32nd Degree, Blue Lodge & Consistry), and a member of the Central Presbyterian Church. He had 2 siblings, both sisters: JEANNE BEATRICE HOFF GOODWIN (1911 - 2000), who married WILLIAM JOHN GOODWIN, JR. and DORIS MAE HOFF HOHL, who married GEORGE HOHL, PhD. JOHN R. HOFF & VALETTA SCOTT had one older adopted son, EDWARD A. HOFF (1936 - ~1994) who was a career Sgt. in the Army and interred in the U.S. Mil. Cem in Rock Island, IL., and 2 natural sons; JOHN SCOTT HOFF (2 Jan 1946 - Now in Chicago), and ROBERT TENNANT HOFF (4 June 1948 DSM, IA - Now in Washington, DC).
