Hoelscher Family Genealogy Forum
Thank you Elaine for your information. I will briefly state what I know about my relatives. In 1835, Heinrich Hoelscher came from Hamburg and settled in Fort Loramie, OH.
His son was my grandfather's father. My grandfather, John A. Hoelscher was born in Fort Loramie in November 1882 and married Mary Ulliman (also born in Fort Loramie) in 1910. My father, Paul Joseph Hoelscher was born January 4, 1914. My great grandfather died on December 19, 1914. The irony of this is that my daughter was born in March, 1975 and my father died in September, 1975. Each man was a grandfather but died within months of the grandchild being born. The other irony is that my great grandfather (Henry) died on my birthday 28 years before I was born. I was born in Cleveland but raised in Dayton during WWII until my father returned from service in the Marine Corps. His brother, Francis Xavier Hoelscher was wounded at Normandy and never saw another day of service. He died several years ago now of cancer, just like my father, grandfather, and grandmother. My grandparents moved to Dayton in 1910 after they got married and died there. My aunt, who was born in 1911 went to nursing school at Good Samaritan in Cincinnati and eventually worked her whole life at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
It is a small world.... your father was born in 1909 in Cincinnati and lived there all that time. To the best of my knowledge, there was never any contact between the families, yet they have to be related somehow. Well, just thought I would share some recollections. I live in Elyria, OH which is 25 miles west of Cleveland.
