Hi Tammy,
I don't understand the dislike for the surname Hodges by some of our ancestors. My grandfather, John Henry Hodge(s) swore up and down his name was Hodge, even though his birth certificate, marriage license and other documents refer to him as Hodges. My mother, some aunts and uncles swore that there was no way their name was not Hodge.I wonder what happened to cause such animousity to being named Hodges.
You mentioned that you searched cemetaries in Ironton MO looking for the gravesite of Henry Hodges, your great uncle.I searched the social security index file and it has him dying in Illinois.I haven't been able to locate exactly where.I think it's around Marissa in St. Clair CO in Illinois.
Henry and your grandfather, Loyd, were probably born around Irondale, MO.Their father, Henry H. Hodges, Sr. is buried in Big River Cemetery near Irondale, MO.He is buried in an adjoining grave next to his father, David Hodges.
This is just a beginning of the information and history of the Hodge/Hodges family.I would like to have your email address because what I have is too overwhelming for this website.I also have a photo of Loyd and Henry when they were probably 12-14.I'd like to send it to you for verification.I also have some other photos of various Hodges family members. What I have accumulated over the years of the Hodge/Hodges family could fill a book!
Let me know how many generations of the Hodge/Hodges family you are interested in.
Patrick
