George Hodges of Madison County KY early 1820s

Hodges researchers: I am trying to decode a mystery of my Wood family of Madison Co. KY of the early 1800s. I have one Mary (Polly) Wood b. abt. 1798 in Madison County; I believe she is the mother of my A.J. Wood b. abt. 1820 in Madison Co, and possibly also John G. Wood born in Madison Co. in 1818.

The stumbling block is the following information a Wood researcher found in Madison County records. Mary Wood sued a George Hodges for breach of marriage contract in 1822. Also in 1823, George Hodges made a motion that Polly Wood should show cause to the county court for why she had not bound out her son John as the law required. Polly answered the summons of the court and got the court to agree that she did not have to have her son bound out.

All rather confusing. Don't mean to upset the apple cart, but anyone have a clue what this was about? Thanks for any help.
