My husband inherited an oil portrait of "Sir Godfrey Hodges" purported to be painted by Sir Godfrey's daughter. Somewhere in the family lore I heard that the family had a large manor house somewhere "in the country". My guess on the date of the portrait would be 1820s - 1850s. I also understand that one of the Hodges daughters went to work in Queen Victoria's household as a talented lace maker. This "Godfrey Hodges" would be my husband's great-great-great great grandfather.
The family story gets rather thin when discussing the how and why of the Hodges grandchildren arriving in the US ... I am aware of two of his grandsons: Will Westworth was active in the 7th day Adventist organization, serving as a missionary in China before 1915, and later as a radio evangelist out of Battle Creek, Michigan. Will Westworth's brother (or father?) was John Westworth, an artist who worked mainly in wood carving.
