Hi Martin,
I dont have anything definate at the moment, except that my great grandfather Benjamin Hodges was born in 1840 in Bradford Abbas, Dorset, but his father George 1810 - 1883 was from Mudford, Somerset. I havent got back farther than him at the moment. I am just wondering if he (George) and your Benjamin may be siblings? The only thing that may not fit is that they where all blacksmiths or shoeingsmiths and all taught all their sons as well. Unless your Benjamin was just working his passage or was responsible for the maintanience of the machinery?
I am currently working on my maternal ancestors as i found doing both at once too confusing! But when i get back to the hodges's again i will watch out for any more benjamins and be in touch if they look promising.
My direct email is Pat@Pat-Alchemy.Co.Uk
Regards Pat Hodges
