Both from the Winfield Daily Courier and The Daily Free Press, Winfield, KS Friday October 3, 1924, p. 5: Mrs. Martha E. Hodges died very suddenly this morning about ten-thirty at her home 220 West Fifth avenue. Mrs. Hodges had been feeling fairly well, and her death came as a great shock to her family. Mrs. Hodges’ husband preceded her August 3, 1923. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Monday October 6, 1924, p. 5: Martha E. Hodges The funeral service for Mrs. Martha E. Hodges was conducted from the parlor of the Durrin- Swisher undertaking rooms yesterday afternoon at two o’clock by the Rev. W. C. Templeton, pastor of the Presbyterian church. A goodly number of friends and neighbors were present. Mrs. W. C. Templeton and G. A. Davis sang “He Leadeth Me” and “Nearer My God to Thee.” Two daughters and a son and an aged mother survive to mourn the loss of this good woman. Mrs. Hodges was a kind neighbor, loving and devoted mother and daughter, thoughtful and considerate of others, careful and industrious in life, and will be greatly missed not only in the home but by all who knew her.
