Will of Elizabeth Hodges
In the Name of God Amen, the sixth day of May one Thousand Seven
hundred and Ninety-nine I Elizabeth Hodges of the District of
Ninety Six, State of South Carolina Abbeville County being weak
in Body, but of Sound and perfect memory, praise be given to God
for the same, And knowing the uncertainty of this Life on Earth
and being desirous to Settle things in Order do make this my Last
Will and Testament in manner and form Full Knowing, that is to
say, first and Principally. I Commend my Soul to Almighty God my
Creator, afsuredly believing that I Shall receive full pardon and
face Remifsion of all my sins, and be Saved by the Precious Death
and Merits of my Blefsed Saviour and Redeemer Christ Jesus and my
Body to the Earth from whence it was taken, to be Buried in such
Decent and Christian manner as my Executors hereafter named shall
think meet and Convenient, and as Touching such worldly Estate as
the Lord in mercy hath lent me my Will and meaning is, The same
shall be employed and bestowed as hereafter by this my Last Will
Exprefseth, And first I Do Revoke, renounce, Frustrate, and make
void all Wills by me formerly made and Declared, and do appoint
this my Last Will and Testament. Item, I give and Bequeath unto
my son Charles Hodges all that Tract or Parsel of Land whereon I
now Live Containing one hundred and Seventy Acres, it Lying on
Mulberry Creek the Waters of Saluda River. The Title thereof I
have made to me from Adam Crain Jones Esqr. The said Land I do
give unto the said Charles Hodges, His Heirs or Afsigns for ever
together with all that the Lord hath been pleased to blefs me
with in this Life And I do hereby Constitute appoint and ordain
my said Son Charles Hodges, and my son John Hodges Executors of
this my Last Will and Testament, Revoking all wills by me
formerly made and this only to be taken for my Last will, in
Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and
year first above written and in the Twenty third year of the
Independence of the United States of America.
