Alexander Hodge, merchant, form of Crail, eldest s. of A. H., of HM Customs, Anstruther; d. Port Stanley, Canada West, Feb 1, 1857 (FH EFR); brother, John Hodge d. Belize, Honduras, (N. D.) EFR May 21 1869; another brother, Thomas Hodge was b. Crail, 1814, & emig to Canada when he was 18yrs of age; secured position with the firm of Wm Young & Co, Hamilton, Ontario; afterwards with fellow clerk, founded business of Hope & Hodge, which was the first to export Canadian and American cheeses to Gt Britain; retired from business in 1866 & soon afterwards removed to Chicago, where he d. Jan 1896 (FFP Feb 29, 1896 quoting “Scottish American”); sister Agnes Hodge, married one Mr. Robertson & d. re of brother, Thomas Hodge, Chicago, July 20, 1885 (76) EFR.
