Dear Robert:
I noticed that Patterson Hodge is shown as a resident of Hamilton County, Illinois, when he had a land tract purchase in neighboring Jefferson County, Illinois, in 1854.My great-grandfather was a Dr. Alphonso Hodge, an allopath, that had married in Livingston County, KY in 1853, but was married in 1860 to Rachel Jeanette Carter in Hamilton County, Illinois where they made their home...I think it was called Logansport...it has since disappeared. However, it is difficult to believe that these two families are not related.I also think Alphonso may have married in Marion County, Illinois in 1857 to a Teresa Harper under the name Alphonson/en Hodge.I think Marion County is only one county over from Jefferson County, too.
Do you have any information on Alphonso or his brother, Peter H. Hodge of Union County, KY, a physician and surgeon that died in 1860?It is thought that their father's name may have been Peter, their mother, Mary...but there is no documentation. Also, in the early 1820's it was a Hiram HodgeS that also had a land grant in Hamilton County. His place of residence was given as neighboring White County, Illinois.
Can you tie Patterson's family to any of these men?Did Patterson have any ties to SC or Western Kentucky?I do realize that he did live in Bedford County, TN for a brief period...around 1830.Have you ever heard of a Paterack or Palnac Hodge?
Any information will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
John Spencer
