HODGE Families, MAINE, John . d1799 in Accident
Hello,My ancestor, Calvin KIDDER, was killed in a mailboat accident on the Schoodic River (now St. Croix River) separating Maine and New Brunswick in Feb. 1799.In total, there were 5 men who were killed. The other names are:James SPRAGUE,James TROTT,Samuel TROTT, and John HODGE.I have found people researching the Trott name on the ME/NB border. And, I know there were Sprague families in the same area. But, I very rarely see the surname, HODGE, mentioned in regards to that area.
Out of curiousity, I went to www.google.com .. and found out that the first Hodge in Maine settled there in 1623.And, a John Hodge was living in (now) Poland, ME, in 1790.I am curious whether he was the John Hodge that was on the Mailboat in 1799.
