My great-great-grandfather was Israel HOCUTT, born @ 1825 in Alabama. I find him in Neshoba Co., Mississippi 1850-1868. Then he disappears til 1876 when he turns up in Lamar Co., Texas. He was married to Elizabeth (possibly MC CULLOUGH) and had 10 children:Mary J., twins Evaline and Emeline, Nancy, Luvenia, Anna Elizabeth, Sarah Louisa, Amanda L., John William, and Eligiah. All were born in MS, except Eligiah who was born in Texas. I am descended from Amanda. All of her children say that Israel was Choctaw but he is
not on the Dawes Rolls. I have not been able to tie him to the Hocutts of Alabama nor to prove a Choctaw affiliation. Would appreciate any info. Also, the Lamar Co., TX records show HOKITs as early as the 1860s. There are marriage records for a Sarah HOKIT to Joseph HAWLEY 29 Jun 1866 and a Y. R. HOKIT to Sophia CHOAT 7 Feb 1866.
