I don't know if this is the same Francis Hobson. I am a descendent of a Francis Hobson born in Drumilly, Laughgall Parish, County Armagh, Ireland before 1673. He died there around 1739-41. He was married to Mary Harding on 29 January 1694. They had six children: Mary, Phebe, Francis III, Ruth, Sarah and Thomas. Francis III was born in 1705 in the same location as his father. He died in 1778 in Menallen Township, York County, PA. He married Ann Mackey on 25 November 1741 in Loughgall Parish, County Armagh, Ireland. They had eight children: Francis IV, Joseph, Mary, Ann, Robert, Phebe, Elizabeth and William. This line of Hobsons were Quakers. They descend from Francis Hobson who converted to the Quaker religion around 1655. He was a martyr for the Quaker faith. He was sent to prison for refusing to pay the parish tax and died there in 1675.
I don't know if this information helps or simply adds to the confusion. I would be interested in sharing information and comparing notes.
